Takeover ‘exclusive’ claims Saudis have identified TWO back-up plans in case Poch rejects NUFC

Last week, Sky Sports reported that Mauricio Pochettino was the would-be buyers’ “number one target” ahead of a potential £300m takeover at St James’ Park.

Today, an ‘exclusive’ from Foot Mercato has echoed those claims, but state the Saudis have already lined up TWO back-up targets should the Argentinian reject the Newcastle job.

According to them, Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre is their ‘Plan B’, while Marseille’s André Villas-Boas – who’s previously had Premier League stints at Spurs and Chelsea – has been shortlisted as ‘Plan C’.

Foot Mercato also claim a takeover is “on the verge” of completion and continue to insist that the agents of big name players such as Edinson Cavani, Nabil Fekir and Kalidou Koulibaly have all been contacted – suggesting they plan to make a number of statement signings if and when a deal is announced.

More rumours that would be hard to stomach for Steve Bruce – especially when it’s been suggested he’s relying on media updates, not insight from Mike Ashley – however it does seem unlikely that he’d stay beyond the current season should wealthy and ambitious owners arrive.

  1. Rafa for me,knows the club and a lot of the players so would hit the ground running. I also think he could attract very good players too.
