According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are now looking to sign Thomas Robert – the son of former French winger Laurent Robert.
The ‘exclusive’ includes quotes from the 19-year-old’s agent, who confirms a number of clubs have shown interest and is understood to have told Football Insider that one of those is Newcastle United.
Thomas looks set to be available on a free after snubbing a four-year deal with Ligue 1 side Montpellier, and it’s claimed ourselves, Celtic and Rangers are all looking to sign him for nothing this summer.
Here’s what his agent, Mark McKay, has told Football Insider:
“There has been a number of clubs who have expressed an interest in Thomas and being on a free transfer makes him even more in demand,”
“We helped move his dad Laurent to Newcastle for over £10m and if Thomas is half as good as his dad he will prove to be a bargain for someone this summer.”
The Frenchman – who plays as a winger just like his dad – is said to speak ‘perfect English’ after growing up in England, and the report claims he’s keen to return to the place his father made a name for himself.
He’s yet to make an appearance at senior level at Montpellier – featuring for their U-21’s instead – but is believed to have trained with the Ligue 1 side’s first team all season.
One to watch this summer? We shall see..
