‘Source close’ to top manager speaks out about NUFC links ahead of Saudi takeover

As revealed by The Chronicle, a ‘source close’ to potential managerial target Massimiliano Allegri has denied the suggestion that the Italian is headed to Newcastle, insisting any talk is “just rumours.”

Allegri has been out of work since leaving his post at Juventus last year and his absence has seen him linked with near enough every top job on the continent.

He is reportedly learning English and was heavily backed for a move to Spurs in the winter before they made their move to bring Jose Mourinho back to London.

Now, the six-time Serie A winner has been touted as a possible replacement for Steve Bruce should our Saudi-backed takeover be completed, alongside a host of names including Rafa Benitez and Mauricio Pochettino.

A source close to the manager said this when speaking to The Chronicle:

There is not even a ‘Newcastle’ right now.

“Who should be operating? The original owner? The Saudis or the new American?

“Just rumours.”

The truth is nobody really has a clue what is going on right now other than the buying or the selling side.

Is Allegri reaching out to our new owners here? Unlikely, but who knows.

Would fans even want to see Allegri at the helm? Judging by social media and our poll conducted a couple of weeks ago, it appears to be a straight shoot-out between Benitez and Pochettino for who Toon fans want in charge.
