Steve Bruce wants to sign Liverpool player if he keeps his job at Newcastle – The Athletic

Steve Bruce is an ‘admirer’ of Adam Lallana and had been eyeing a move to sign the Liverpool midfielder on a free this summer, according to The Athletic.

This isn’t the first time his name has been mentioned – with The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards and The Chronicle’s Mark Douglas crediting Bruce with an interest earlier this year.

The 32-year-old’s contract at Anfield is due to expire this summer, making him a potential bargain for a whole host of Premier League clubs, however it seems any transfer plans will now be put on hold for a whole host of reasons.

Not only is Steve Bruce’s long-term future up in the air ahead of a potential Saudi-backed takeover – meaning any current targets may be binned under potential new owners – we don’t know when the season or transfer window will resume as normal.

He isn’t the only soon-to-be free agent The Athletic has credited us with interest in either, with Olivier Giroud (Chelsea) and Ryan Fraser (Bournemouth) also mentioned last month.

There’s also Mark Gillesipe, the local lad and Motherwell goalkeeper who they claim was “very close” to signing a pre-contract agreement before COVID-19 reared its ugly head and a potential takeover emerged.
