Newcastle set to make move for “the best 16-year-old in England right now” – Report

Newcastle are ready to make a move for Aston Villa youngster Carney Chukwuemeka, according to reports.

This comes from Soccer Link, who claim we are prepared to pay £1m to sign the England U-17 star, who’s also said to be interested in signing at St James’ Park.

Interestingly, Aston Villa CEO Christian Purslow recently described the midfielder as “probably the best 16-year-old in England right now”, with an unnamed scout also saying this to The Athletic in a recent piece on the 16-year-old star:

“He’s the best player Villa have got coming through,”

“He can do everything in the midfield area and there are a lot of clubs monitoring his situation at Villa.”

With all the above in mimd, you’d think Aston Villa will be desperate to keep a hold of their brightest young talent, however The Athletic reveal that he’s yet to commit his future to the Midlands club – leaving the door open to a potential move.

Football’s all but stopped in recent weeks, with us all just trying to get through these unprecedented times, not pursue potential transfers, however this could be one our scouts are trying to line up under the radar – especially now they’re back to work after being taken off furlough leave.

Chukwuemeka, 16, has bagged 2 goals and 6 assists in 14 appearances for Villa’s U-18 side this season, with his performances recently earning him a promotion to their U-23’s as a result.
