According to Lee Ryder, Newcastle United’s head of recruitment Steve Nickson is pushing on with transfer plans for next season – regardless of current takeover status.
With him understood to have been back at work for several weeks now after he was brought back from furlough at the end of April, The Chronicle have revealed TWO players he’d keen to sign.
Today, they reveal that he’s held talks with the representatives of Nice midfielder Arnaud Lusamba.
Ryder reports that all major spending has been paused by Mike Ashley ahead of a potential takeover, yet suggests a move for the 23-year-old could be pursued given he’ll be available to sign on a free now his contract at the Ligue 1 club is set to expire.
Interestingly, the same piece states that Lusamba’s representatives have worked with Nickson before, with the Frenchman under the same agency as Joelinton.
Elsewhere, The Chronicle also report that QPR star Eberechi Eze is another player being tracked by our talent spotters.
This comes from Mark Douglas, who states that Nickson has been keeping a close eye on Eze – arguably the Championship’s most exciting young talent – but believes he’s also a player who could appeal to potential new owners.
It’s hard to know what’s going to happen in the coming weeks and months while we wait patiently for a takeover announcement of some sort, however these may well be two names to watch?
