The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards appeared on The Chronicle’s Everything Is Black And White podcast yesterday, and had plenty to say about the latest takeover saga.
Like him or loathe him it’s a decent listen, especially when it comes to his adamant prediction that Mike Ashley will be gone by 2021 – whether a £300m Saudi takeover happens or not.
Here’s the snippet that will be music to the ears of us NUFC fans should Edwards’ claims come true:
Edwards is somewhat of a divisive character amongst Newcastle fans, at times coming across as arrogant and negative, particular on Twitter, but there is no denying he can also be very incisive.
Naturally the takeover was one of the main topics, and Edwards managed to sum up how we’re all feeling in his opening answer by labelling the whole thing “exhausting”. He’s 100% correct.
He even managed to confuse us all even more be stating he thinks it’s 50/50 to go through, although his ‘gut feeling’ was that this Saudi saga will have a happy ending for Newcastle fans.
Regardless of wether this particular takeover goes through, Edwards is convinced Ashley’s time as owner is coming to an end.
You can listen to the full podcast here, but here’s an interesting transcript about Ashley.
“It will be sold!
“It will be sold this time.
“If it’s not these (the Saudis), it will be sold (to someone).
“I do not think Mike Ashley will be the owner of Newcastle United by 2021.
“He wants to get out, he wants to go and I think it will be sold this time.”
Please let this be true!
The arrival of silly-rich Saudis with the financial muscle to take us back to the top end of English football is exciting, but the ultimate goal is getting Mike Ashley out of our football club.
Luke Edwards is exactly the same as the other journalists who are elastic with factual statements. The ONLY fact here is Edwards knows nowt, complete guesswork on everything he reports.
