Agent says £300m takeover could lead to NUFC star being the “symbol of the new & rich Newcastle”

Some interesting comments have emerged today from Pavel Zika – the agent of Newcastle United star Martin Dubravka.

Zika admits that there has been “interest” in the goalkeeper – suggesting links with the likes of PSG were very much “real”, but insists that this doesn’t mean he’s about to leave anytime soon.

Instead, he believes Dubravka – who he rates as one of the best stoppers in England – is happy on Tyneside and “can be a symbol of the new and rich Newcastle” should a takeover go through.

Speaking to Slovakian news outlet Sport.SME, here’s what he’s had to say:

“Today Martin Dubravka is one of the best goalkeepers in England, maybe the best,”

“Dubravka confirms global quality. It is based on his performances for his current club and national team. This is also confirmed by various statistics and expert opinions. It’s only natural that big clubs ask for Dubravka.

“There are speculations in various media. However, neither I nor my sons (working together in the agency) are ones who would say something first. We do not do promotion. We only answer media questions.

Martin has a high credit, world clubs show interest for him. Martin has high human qualities.

“They mentioned Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich or the best Spanish clubs and it was based on a real situation and real interest.

“When big clubs are at the stage of searching for the right goalkeeper, it is normal that they mention Dúbravka. But that doesn’t mean he’s moving.

“Martin is happy in Newcastle. Martin can be a symbol of the new and rich Newcastle.”

Considering he’s been without doubt our player of the season across 2019/20 and arguably our most consistent performer since he arrived from Prague in 2018, these can only be seen as positive comments from his agent.

The fact such huge clubs have showed interest is a slight concern, suggesting his top class performances have no gone unnoticed across Europe, however this is perhaps another reason why we’ll have to hope and pray a Saudi-backed takeover goes through.

He’s clearly happy on Tyneside and living the Premier League dream, but he’s bound to go on to bigger and better things if we don’t soon…
