Journalist claims NUFC want to sign striker on loan with option to buy – takeover or no takeover

Yesterday, an opinion piece from The Chronicle suggested that Wolfsburg’s Wout Weghorst would be the perfect forward to get the best out of Joelinton.

Since then, a new name has actually been tipped to make a potential move to St James’ Park this summer – Roma forward Patrik Schick.

This comes from The Mail’s Simon Jones, who claims the 24-year-old has been identified as a target – whether a £300m Saudi takeover happens or not.

With that and a few other factors in mind, there are a few reasons for believing this one could have more foundation than some of the other 99+ we’ve been linked to.

The Czech Republic international has scored 10 goals this season during a loan spell with Red Bull Leipzig. The Bundesliga club had an option to buy Schick permanently for a knockdown £21million but it’s believed that expired on June 15.

The report goes on to say that Roma will listen to offers at around £24million, but there is a possibility they will consider another season loan with an option to buy – something that’s said to have alerted Newcastle United.

That last snippet is the one that really raises the possibility. The current regime would love to get their hands on a promising young striker for a year on loan, especially if they didn’t have to buy him and could leave it up to potential new owners to make a decision on a potential permanent deal next summer.

As stated by The Mail’s Simon Jones, Schick is “6ft 2ins tall, quick, technically very good, left footed and holds the ball up well.” It almost sounds too good to be true. If he’s that good why don’t Roma want him and want less than £25m for him? A bargain to be had if true or a good reason why they want rid?

He’s also a full Czech International having scored 9 times for the National side in 22 caps. That also sounds a decent record for his age.

So, perhaps he is worth a punt, but probably only if the takeover doesn’t go through, with us hoping to sign more proven players if newfound cash and ambition arrives?

The blog has already reported the link to ‘Malaysian wonderkid’ Luqman Hakim bin Shamsudin yesterday. That one came out of nowhere as many seem to do.

No doubt tomorrow and the next day and the one after that there’ll be more linked and reported as targets. But given the possibility of a loan deal perhaps Patrik will be the one that Schick’s!
