Steve Bruce makes telling admission about Saudi takeover talk – He hasn’t got a clue, has he?

Steve Bruce’s latest comments on a potential takeover at Newcastle United show just how little he’s been told about it all from Mike Ashley.

The NUFC boss admits the reason he can’t say anything about it all is not because he’s been warned to keep quiet, but due to the fact he genuinely hasn’t a clue what is going on – even stating that the local journalists interviewing this morning know more about it all than him.

Sadly, that’s probably true and not a reflection of Steve Bruce himself but the woeful lack of communication he receives from above, with George Caulkin recently admitting that Mike Ashley hasn’t had a single conversation with Bruce since news of a potential buyout first emerged several months ago now.

As revealed by The Chronicle, here’s what Bruce told a host of local reporters when asked about the takeover talk earlier today:

 “You can’t avoid it.

“Of course, there’s also been nothing else to write about.

“What can I do?

“The reason I can’t say anything on it is, you (the local journalists) probably know more than me.

“You know what it is?

“In that respect – great – because then I can’t have any other ideas out there.

“As I say, whatever is best for Newcastle United is the best for me.”

Bruce is clearly in limbo, just like the rest of Newcastle United while we await the Premier League’s final decision, but he’s clearly keen to roll his sleeves up and get on with the job in hand until he’s told otherwise.

Here’s what he had to say on that front, revealing his aim to get us competing for a top 10 – all while people are “hover” over his job as speculation remains rife:

“I am aware with all the speculation going on and people are hovering over my job.

“But I get on with it until I know different.

“That has always been the case with me.”

“There are nine Premier League games and let’s see where that takes us.

“We want to be up and running.

“It’s the ultimate aim (to get back to challenging for a top 10 place).”

Finally, Bruce also confirmed the club have offered Matty Longstaff a “fantastic deal”, saying everyone as the club is desperate to see him stay in favour of a move to Italy.
