Report reveals 2 players eyed up by NUFC scouts, despite Saudi takeover talk – Ones to watch?

An interesting transfer piece emerged from Lee Ryder over the weekend, revealing some of the moves our recruitment have been making in recent months – despite the non-stop talk of a potential Saudi takeover.

The Staveley-led bid to buy the club looks increasingly likely to be FINALLY be approved based on the latest reports emerging on Monday, however Ryder insists that Steve Nickson and Co are continuing to make transfer plans to ‘safeguard’ the club heading into the summer.

Targets may chance should a £300m deal go through, but TWO players named in his intriguing piece are Roma striker Patrik Schick and recently released Nice midfielder Arnauld Lusamba.

He claims scout Mick Tait has tracked Schick ‘extensively’ during his loan spell at Red Bull Leipzig – and has found he’ll be available for £22m this summer – while our interest in Lusamba has been reported on a few occasions, with Ryder recently confirming that Steve Nickson had already held talks with the Frenchman prior to his release.

Here’s a snippet from his latest piece on the transfer front for The Chronicle:

Chronicle Live understands that the current regime aren’t under any orders from any would-be buyers, and with the Premier League now aiming for a September start to the next season, a transfer short-list is being put together by Steve Nickson for the new campaign.

The plans are designed to safeguard United no matter what the outcome of the takeover talks are with a recruitment hit-list drawn up to bolster Bruce’s squad.

Two players under consideration for the Magpies are AS Roma striker Patrik Schick who spent the season at Red Bull Leipzig, while Nickson has done much of the groundwork for released Nice midfielder Arnaud Lusamba.

Before the lockdown, Bruce was trying to identify other striker targets and in Schick they would be offered the chance to sign the 24-year-old for around £22million.

The Czech Republic international has been looked at extensively by Toon scout Mick Tait and the striker has netted 11 goals for club and country this season.

It may mean nothing if new owners come in and create transfer plans of there own, but these could be two to watch this summer – whether Saudi owners arrive or not.

Lusamba has already held talks with the club according to a report from The Chronicle earlier this month, while Schick was named as a target in a recent piece by the Daily Mail’s Simon Jones – who claimed we were eyeing a potential loan deal with an option to buy next summer.

Two ones to watch? We shall see..
