NUFC in ‘advanced talks’ with free agent, 2 sign new deals & 7 officially released

Newcastle United have confirmed that Andy Carroll and Javier Manquillo have BOTH signed new contracts at Newcastle United.

Carroll has signed a one-year extension, while the Spaniard has agreed a new four-year deal with the club – a deserved reward for his solid performances over the past 18 months.

Elsewhere, Lee Ryder has also revealed that the club are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Mark Gillespie.

The former Motherwell goalkeeper – who has just been released by the SPL side – has been tipped to replace the outgoing Rob Elliot for some time, only for a proposed takeover to delay a potential move to his boyhood club.

That said, it sounds like a move to St James’ Park may still be on the cards for the 28-year-old:

Elsewhere, Ryder has also confirmed that U-23 talents Luke Charman, Víctor Fernández, Liam Gibson and Nathan Harker have all been released by the club.

Two others who have also been officially released from the club are Jack Colback and Jamie Sterry, with Steve Bruce wishing them well earlier this after the pair were told they would not be offered new contracts at the club.

Elsewhere, Matty Longstaff is believed to have “verbally agreed” to stay until the end of the season, but it is not yet known if he’ll sign a new long-term deal on Tyneside.

Disappointing news for a few of our U-23’s, but great to see two influential squad players sign new deals at the club!

Here’s what Steve Bruce has had to say about the news:

“I’m really pleased that we have been able to put these extensions in place and I’d like to thank the players for committing themselves to the club with some very important games left to play.

“We have been proactive in trying to reach these agreements and they will give us the best chance of finishing the season as strongly as possible.

“I’m delighted Javier Manquillo and Andy Carroll have extended their contracts longer term.

“They have both made important contributions this season and I’m really pleased we can continue to call on them beyond the summer.”
