Mike Ashley receives takeover message from NUFC star as £300m Saudi deal drags on – Report

According to an exclusive from The Mirror’s Simon Bird, Jamaal Lascelles has now sent a ‘personal plea’ to Mike Ashley asking for clarity over a stalling Saudi takeover.

While everyone connected to Newcastle United is in desperate need of an update after months of uncertainty has left our club in complete and utter limbo, the final decision has nothing to do with Mike Ashley.

He’s struck an agreement with the buyers and is awaiting his money, but he is powerless when it comes to the Premier League’s fit and proper persons test and their ability to approve the Saudi-backed bid, so I struggle to see how he can offer any assurances.

Not only that, I fear the skipper may not get a response, with Steve Bruce admitting in recent weeks that he’s yet to hear a thing from the NUFC owner – who’s spent most of lockdown hidden away in the United States.

It’s good that Lascelles is speaking up and demanding answers, but it feels like only the Premier League know what’s going to happen, with this decision lying with them and no one else.

The 13-week wait is now unacceptable and taking its toll in a number of ways, with Bruce admitting last night that the ongoing uncertainty has been ‘unhealthy’ for both him, his players and the fans at home patiently awaiting a decision.

I don’t expect Ashley to give Lascelles any meaningful update, because I’m not sure he can, but let’s hope an official one arrives from the Premier League ASAP.

We’ve waited long enough now!
