According to reports in Italy, Udinese have now turned their attentions away from a deal for Matty Longstaff.
This comes from Tutto Udinese – a Udine-based outlet close to the Serie A strugglers – who claim that they’re now targeting a move for Tommaso Pobega instead.
They report that the Serie B midfielder would demand a ‘much smaller wage’ and claim he’s now become their number one target, suggesting a move for Matty may have been put on the back burner.
Who knows, this could be way off and he may yet complete a surprise move to Serie A this summer, however it is worth noting that Udinese are just 3 points above the drop zone as things stand. With that in mind, are they looking at a cheaper option just incase they go down in a bid to safeguard their future?
As for what this could mean for Matty and Newcastle United, could this see him backtrack and accept our alleged offer of £20,000-per-week – something he seems to have been reluctant to accept given Udinese were reportedly offering to pay him £30,000 p/w?
No one knows, but this is one of many tedious sagas that needs to be sorted out at Newcastle United!
