Jetro Willems sends emotional message to Newcastle United fans

Jetro Willems has taken to Twitter to send an emotional farewell message to Newcastle United, saying the club will always have a “special place in his heart” – whether he returns this summer or not.

The Dutch international is officially back at parent club Eintracht Frankfurt after his loan move officially expired today, however his time on Tyneside may not be over, with him making his feelings known over a move and the majority of Toon fans wanting the full-back to stay on a permanent basis.

Willems excited from full-back with several explosive displays, chipping in with two quality goals against both Man City and Liverpool and defending solidly at the other end too.

That said, the 25-year-old picked up a serious cruciate ligament injury against Chelsea back in January, which ruled him out for the rest of the season – even after the Premier League’s “Project Restart” was confirmed.

Here is Willems’ message to fans on Twitter:

“I want to thank everyone at NUFC You made me feel at home and supported me throughout the whole season.

“I really appreciate that and I wish you all luck, success and health.

“I’m now going to see what the future holds, but I want you to know that you have a special place in my heart”

Fan favourite Willems struck up a superb partnership with Saint-Maximin on the left-hand side and it is believed he could be available for around £9m – a fee many fans are keen to see us pay despite his latest injury concerns.

The player seems happy at Newcastle so it would be a win/win situation, with that alleged asking price seeming like brilliant value for money for a player of his age (26) and quality.

Let’s hope this is not a goodbye message and we see him back at St James’ Park before too long!
