Journalist claims ex-Mag sold for £400,000 is ‘closing in’ on a £10m move to Brighton

According to Alan Nixon, Newcastle United reject Ivan Toney could be set for a big money move back to the Premier League.

In his latest ‘exclusive’ for The Sun, he reports that Brighton had been ‘closing in’ on a £10m deal for the Peterborough star prior to the COVID-19 crisis and are now revisiting a deal to bring him to the South Coast.

The 24-year-old’s stunning form in League One has made some question our decision to sell him for just £400,000 back in 2018, however the silver lining for us is that a sell on clause was believed to be included in that move to Peterborough – meaning we could be set for a percentage of the fee Brighton pay to the third tier side.

That said, his form in front of goal over the past two years has been outstanding, with him bagging 49 goals and 15 assists since he was let to by Rafa Benitez two summers ago.

Many believed he’d join a promotion chasing Championship side this summer after the Posh failed to go up and agreed to let him leave as a result, however it seems he could go one step further if Brighton’s interest is as serious as Nixon claims.

One to watch this summer and another case of what might have been?

  1. I do believe we are in the process of a wonderful new era.
Although this was a brilliant exhibition by the whole team. The future excites me.
With the two new recruits in Lazaroa and Bentaleb, plus the pace and skill of ASM.
    Not forgetting Almiron lightning acceleration.
    Plus Shelveys passing ability.
We at Newcastle United can look to the future with great excitement.
We have the foundation to build on this and confirm we will be a force to reckon with.
The essential aim now is purchasing two natural young or experienced strikers.
We are heading in the right direction for years to comes.
The future is bright and BLACK and WHITE.
