Almiron’s agent confirms release clause & responds to new Atletico Madrid claims

Miguel Almiron’s agent has addressed today’s rumours linking the Newcastle United attacker with a move to Atleitco Madrid.

This comes after Spanish outlet Fichajes.net. claimed Diego Simeone is a ‘big fan’ of the 26-year-old and keen to sign him for the La Liga giants, with the same piece suggesting £30m would be enough to tempt us into a sale.

In response to these claims, Almiron’s agent (Daniel Campos) has insisted there’s been ‘nothing official’ arrive from Atleti, however he appears to have confirmed their interest and suggests the Paraguayan has a ‘high’ release clause in his current contract at St James’ Park.

Here’s what he’s had to say in response to the rumours:

“We are in contact with the people of Atleti, with the director but nothing official.

“Even before his departure for Newcastle, he was already under the radar at the club.

“The quickness of social media allows for a long of things that aren’t true. It does not shock me that Miguel is in the interest of various big teams.”

“The truth is everything is a field of assumptions. We have to see if NUFC wants to negotiate a departure. Miguel’s release clause is high.”

“Miguel is a player that fits perfectly in Simeone’s system.”

Firstly, I don’t see £30m being enough to ‘tempt us to sell’ when he signed for a fee in the region of £20m just last January, however we have no idea what this ‘release clause’ is.

Considering we lost a hugely talented Mikel Merino to Spain via a low release clause a few summers ago, we’ll have to hope this buy-out in Almiron’s contract is far higher and not a price Atletico Madrid would happily pay!

One thing that’s for sure here is that his agent seems very keen to talk – and talk about a potential exit for a player who’s only been here 18 months!
