Bruce tells Sky Sports he’s meeting unsettled NUFC player TODAY for crunch talks

As revealed by Keith Downie, Steve Bruce has told Sky Sports News that he’s meeting with Matty Longstaff today to try and convince him to stay at Newcastle United.

This comes after MONTHS of contract talks appear to have totally stalled, seeing Udinese step in and offer the 20-year-old a deal worth around £30,000-per-week.

It’s claimed our current offer on the table is around £20,000 p/w, but it seems clear he’s not willing to accept as things stand given Bruce has had to set up a meeting today to ‘convince’ him to stay:

“I hope it’s going to be positive, we don’t want to lose him.

“I hope we can overcome something.”

So, is this last chance saloon for both Matty Longstaff and Newcastle United?

Bruce said just a few days ago that the club had done everything in their power to keep him and can do no more – suggesting our alleged offer of £20,000 per-week won’t be increased – but perhaps he feels one last meeting is needed to check he’s not about to make a big mistake and leave for Italy.

We won’t know the full picture, but let’s hope Matty does the right thing and signs at St James’ Park!
