Danny Rose will be recalled to Steve Bruce’s side for Wednesday’s trip to Manchester City, according to the Northern Echo.
The same piece also confirms that Allan Saint-Maximin WILL be rested, while Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff have been ruled out with hamstring injuries – and could even miss the rest of the season, with both tipped to miss “two to three weeks” (the season finishes in less than three weeks time).
With that in mind, it looks like Danny Rose won’t be the only January loan signing to start in midweek, with Nabil Bentaleb almost certain to replace Isaac Hayden and Valentino Lazaro surely in line to appear from the off.
Bentaleb was impressive in the second half of our 2-2 draw with West Ham, showing slick footwork, winning possession back well and always moving the ball forward quickly when he got on it, however his start at Bournemouth last week was the first time he’s been in from the off in our SIX league games.
Elsewhere, it was frustrating that Lazaro was limited to another late cameo on Sunday, with many Mags on social media disappointed to see him left out of Bruce’s line up once again on Sunday.
He was lively at Bournemouth, finishing superbly and almost bagging another as he crashed the crossbar from range, so he’ll have been miffed to miss out.
It’ll be a tough game to say the least, and perhaps a chance to see how hard both can work off the ball against top opposition, but let’s hope they can impress, with this finally seeming like a time Bruce will have no option but to give the talented Austrian a chance to start in his favoured position.
