Alan Shearer disagrees with Steve Bruce & slates “crazy” NUFC star after Watford 2-1 Newcastle

Alan Shearer has disagreed with Steve Bruce’s comments after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Watford, where he claimed both penalty decisions that went against us were unfair.

We looked in control of the game after 45 minutes but the tide turned drastically in the second-half, with Troy Deeney converting two spot-kicks to take all three points at Vicarage Road.

Shearer, who was working as a pundit for Amazon Prime, has since had his say on both penalty incidents, slating Manquillo’s “crazy” attempt to stop Sarr and also feeling Bruce can have no complaints over Ritchie trip on Femenia:

“I put myself in that situation and I would look for a penalty as well.

“Ritchie doesn’t really go for the ball but he does catch him and I can understand why the referee has given a penalty there.

“He doesn’t go in for the ball but he does catch him.

“They’ve given the referee a decision.

“I would want that as a forward, I can’t complain that the referee has given that.”

Here’s what Shearer then had to say on the Manquillo incident, which saw the Spaniard carelessly pull down Ismaila Sarr for the second penalty decision:

“You’ve got to look at the defender here, Manquillo, he’s switched him from the right to the left side and almost straight away it’s just crazy defending.

“You cannot do that – that is exactly what the forward wants you to do.

“He’s going to say’ ‘come on then, if you’re stupid enough to keep hold of me then I’m going to go – at some stage you’re going to have to let go of me.’

“He just didn’t. It’s so so naive. Crazy defending. “

“As a forward I’m looking at that and think I want that, I want the defender, I’m able to roll him, (you think) the defender is going to have to let go of him but he never did, it’s just crazy.

“It’s a penalty, it’s just crazy defending.”

While I thought the first penalty was harsh and changed the momentum of the game, it is hard to defend Bruce and not agree with Shearer for the second one.

Manquillo was all over the Watford winger and his foul bordered on stupidity, especially considering we’d already given a soft penalty away and the referee was enjoying the sound of his own whistle.

There is a real ‘flatness’ to the rest of our season now as we have very little left to play for, and it’s now just the case of riding out these next four games and using them to help us prepare for 20/21.

  2. THERES NOTHING LEFT TO PLAY FOR ????

What about a bit PRIDE and showing us some determination and some passion .

Because on Saturday that team had none in the second half.

Danny Rose has just come for a pay day he can leave end of season .

    Shambolic…

I really hope your not here next season along with some others members of that team .
