Boris Johnson has today underlined October as the target to allow supporters back inside football stadiums.
Speaking at Downing Street, the Prime Minister also stated that most other leisure centres can open from August 1st, a week after they are officially allowed to open providing they are ‘COVID secure’.
This news is massive for football fans as well as clubs, especially those lower down the pyramid who rely on match day revenue for survival.
Here’s what he’s had to say:
While scepticism while arise at the news to allow thousands to attend football matches while there is no coronavirus vaccine, it does allow FA chiefs and those in charge of clubs to prepare ahead of the 20/21 campaign.
How will the COVID-19 landscape look by October is another thing. If the situation remains the same, would you take the risk? Will stadiums be allowed maximum capacity? These are questions that remain to be answered.
At least the news can be met with some form of positivity – things could be looking normal again a lot sooner than expected!
