‘Source close’ to Saudi bid speaks out about takeover delay – A promising update via the national press?

A promising new report on a potential Saudi takeover has emerged from The Independent today.

In their latest piece on the ongoing £300m saga, they’ve shared some promising quotes received from a ‘source close to the Saudi Arabian-backed bid’, also stating that the Staveley-led consortium believe the deal is NOT in danger of being derailed and should go through eventually – even if they miss out on the summer transfer window.

Here’s what this unnamed spokesperson for the Saudi-backed consortium had to say, insisting that they remain adamant the bid will be approved and will not be deterred in light of the long delay and bad press they’ve received in the process:

“We don’t see a legitimate reason to stop the sale,”

“The decision making-process (leading to the involvement in the sale) was very deliberate.

“They (PIF) do not make knee-**** decisions.”

The Independent also write that Newcastle are expected to oversee the summer transfer window under Mike Ashley’s control – despite the fact he’s believed to have ‘lost interest’ in the club (when was he ever interested?!) – but state a takeover is still expected to go through before the 2020/21 season begins.

With this in mind, it feels like there’ll have to be a compromise on both sides. The potential buyers may now know they’ll be unable to influence any new signings now the summer window is just days away from opening, however the current regime must crack on with transfer plans and ensure that we enter the 2020/21 season in a stable position after months of limbo threatened to cripple us even further.

So, this latest piece from a relatively credible national paper at least sheds some positive light on a potential deal after a few weeks of negativity, however it is worth saying that the buying side appear to have been very confident all this time – yet here we are four and a bit month later still waiting for a deicison!

Even if this summer ends up being a write off for potential new owners, let’s just hope we get rid of Mike Ashley once and for all and see this tedious takeover saga reach a positive conclusion before the new season kicks off!

  1. “We don’t see a legitimate reason to stop the sale,”

Of course they are going to say they don’t see a legitimate reason to stop the sale.

They knew all the things they have done before they started.

The Iraqis denied the Americans were in Baghdad while CNN, BBC etc were showing footage of American Tanks rolling down the highway into the city.

The Emiratis, insisting they had a deal, and had forwarded all the papers to the Premier League and provided proof of funds, saw no problem with buying the club insisting the “so-called” Owners and Directors Test” was not a problem.

The Saudis, having banned the only legal provider of European Football, Cricket F1 , Tennis, Rugby NFL NBA etc in the middle east, slashing exposure of those sports and revenue, can’t see any reason why the deal should not go ahead.

  2. Sick of hearing all the story’s about this take over of all of them not one has been correct.what all we supporters want is to hear is will it happen or will it not. Weeks ago I said masters needs to give a answer. He said shortly well someone needs to tell him the meaning of shortly .All we ever get is it’s confidential, we’ll get you fingers out of your ears Richard Masters and do some honest work for change and stop sitting on the fence. You are paid plenty so start earning it.

  3. I agree totally with J. ROBSON. Masters has had plenty of time to come to a conclusion on this. The rules of the owners and directors test surely have been checked by now. Stop leaving our club in limbo .It is not right to treat the NUFC employees and playing staff in this way , and especially the supporters who provide the money to enable the Premier league to exist.

  8. If no takeover fatty can take Sports Direct United and stuff it along with the Premier League. What does any of this have to do with football anymore. 13 years of Cashley and 4 months of this mickey taking has killed any passion I used to have, just not worth the effort. Very sad and sickening. 🙄
