Newcastle keeping a ‘close eye’ on Leicester City attacker – The Telegraph

Newcastle United are ‘keeping a close eye’ on Leicester City’s Demarai Gray, according to The Telegraph.

This comes via Mike McGrath’s latest piece on the transfer front, which also reveals that Southampton look set to win the £11m race for Mohammed Salisu – the Real Valladolid centre-back who’s regularly been linked with a move to Tyneside over the past year.

Back to Gray, he reports that Bruce is a big admirer of the 24-year-old and a player he will look to sign this summer should Leicester agree to let him go.

It’s also worth noting that the former England U-21 star is out of contract next summer, meaning he may be allowed to leave at a cut-price fee this summer.

That said, The Telegraph do report that he may yet decide to run down his deal at the King Power Stadium and assess his options as a free agent this time next year.

A talented player and the sort of deal that would no doubt appeal to us given his age and potential availability, however he is someone who’s seen his career stagnate of late, going from a Leicester youngster showing real potential to a man approaching his mid 20’s and struggling for game time.

Gray, who Transfermarkt value at £13m, has bagged 3 goals and 5 assists across 2019/20, but has found starts hard to come by since Brendan Rodgers took the Foxes job.
