According to the Daily Mail, Roma striker Patrik Schick is the club’s ‘top target’ heading into the summer transfer window.
This comes from their latest piece which looks at the business all 20 Premier League clubs are hoping to do before the new season begins on September 12th.
In this they also report that we’re showing interest in Norwich star Todd Cantwell and Sheffield Utd defender Chris Basham, stating that the four areas we are looking to improve are up top, in central midfield, at full-back and centre-back.
Back to Schick, this isn’t the first time his named has been linked with a move to Tyneside, however it’s interesting that he’s now being described as a ‘top target’ a few days on from the window officially opening.
The 24-year-old striker has just spent the 2019/20 season on loan at RB Leipzig, scoring 10 goals in 22 appearances in the process.
He’s publicly stated his eagerness to join the Bundesliga side on a permanent deal this summer, however it seems we may be looking to offer him a route out of Roma – a club that paid £37m to sign him from Sampdoria back in 2017.
The Daily Mail reported last month that we were pursuing a potential loan deal that included an obligation to buy for £20m plus NEXT summer, something that could work very nicely for us given our summer budget is expected to be restricted this year following the effects COVID-19 has had on the club.
One to watch this summer? We shall see, although he certainly appears to fit the profile of player we tend to go for, being a European talent who’s only within our reach after losing his way a little in recent seasons.
