Bruce reveals the player set for another season at NUFC after “great” end to 2019/20

The Chronicle are reporting that Dwight Gayle has done enough to earn himself another year in our squad following his goal run since the return of the Premier League.

Gayle has tucked away four goals and an assist in eight games to end the season strongly and cement himself as Steve Bruce’s first-choice option up front.

Record signing Joelinton has struggled for form and Bruce will likely be in the hunt for a goal-scorer in the summer, with every Newcastle fan and his dog knowing that a top striker should be a priority.

The gaffer actually spoke about Gayle after our 3-1 defeat to Liverpool, highlighting the positive difference he has made at the end of the campaign.

Here is what Bruce said:

“He’s a player who’s been blighted by injury. By the time I arrived in China, he had a bad calf, and it took weeks and months to get over.

Then, he did the other one, and that took weeks and months to get over again.o

He’s had a great end to the season though, so let’s hope he can have a really decent summer and come back firing because he’s reminded everybody that he’s a goalscorer.”

Other than a horror miss in the cup clash with Man City, Gayle has been clinical in front of goal since the restart, showing some great movement and linking up the play quite well considering he’s generally known as a poacher and little else.

He has certainly done enough to warrant a chance again next season, although that probably says more about our current options than anything else.

Carroll has signed can for another season, and alongside Gayle, those two will provide decent depth to our attacking options, providing we bring another man in!

Muto last time on Tyneside has been non-existent and will likely be offloaded in the summer if a suiter can be found. As for Joelinton, his efforts this campaign have proven we can’t risk taking a gamble on him if we want to comfortably stay up once again.

  1. And that’s the sum total of your ambition for United, to comfortably stay up? Anyone on any platform should be screaming from the roof tops that Bruce is the absolute worst manager. Sorry coach we could possibly have. The gaffer? You call Bruce the gaffer. It makes me want to weep.

  3. With the possible exception of “in the Championship” Gayle has never been clinical in front of goal.

If we are already saying he is in the squad next season that just shows a complete lack of ambition on the transfer front.
