The London Magpie Group have made a timely appearance outside the Premier League’s headquarters today, pushing for answers and transparency over the Newcastle United takeover saga.
They have also been joined in the capital by @HaddawayMan, a NUFC fan who’s been demonstrating outside Richard Masters head office since Monday.
This comes a day on from over 5,000 letters were sent to MPs (write yours here), with the petition asking for an investigation into the Premier League’s takeover process also passing 85,000 signatures (sign it yourself here).
As shown below, the NUFC fan group’s peaceful protest features banners and boards carrying messages that demand the Premier League give clarity to Newcastle supporters on a day where their annual AGM meeting takes place.
An annual meeting takes place each year between all 20 clubs in the top flight, giving the opportunity to discuss any concerns or acknowledge any potential rule changes ahead of the coming season – a perfect time to raise an issue regarding our takeover.
Pressure from all angles is beginning to mount on Masters & Co, with 85,000 signatures signing the takeover petition at the time of writing. A lengthy list of MPs from the North East have also written to the top flight chief in order to deliver us a fair answer as to why the Saudi takeover was not waived through.
With supporter unrest starting to gather national media attention, sitting on their hands and refusing to say anything is starting to become an untenable position for the Premier League to be in.
It’s time we got the answers and clarity we deserved.
