Sky Sports confirm reported NUFC ‘target’ has agreed £11m move to Southampton

On several occasions over the past 12 months, Newcastle United have been credited with an interest in highly-rated La Liga talent Mohammed Salisu.

Our links to the Real Valladolid star first emerged back in November last year, with us said to be aware of €12m release clause that existed in the towering 21-year-old’s contract.

He was then named as a summer transfer target in May, this time via Spanish outlet AS, however it’s now emerged from Sky Sports that Southampton have completed a deal to sign the centre-back for £10.9m, subject to medical.

The Ghanaian arrives from Spain with rave reviews and is being tipped by some to follow in the footsteps of former Saints star Virgil Van Dijk, with a few who’ve watched his progress in La Liga closely already backing him to leave for big bucks in 12-18 months time!

We’re well stocked for centre-backs and should instead be focusing on the signing of a proven goalscorer with the limited amount of funds available to us this summer, however it seems Salisu may yet prove to be the latest ‘what if’ signing we could’ve made at St James’ Park if he realises his huge potential in the Premier League.

One to watch at Southampton ahead of the new 2020/21 season.
