Journalist reveals NUFC’s ‘top target’ & the type of player Bruce wants to sign this summer

According to The Mail’s Simon Jones, Newcastle United have identified Callum Wilson as their top transfer target this summer.

The same piece also states that Bruce is pushing to add a host of British players to his squad ahead of next season – not that this will be easily achieved in this day and age with a budget of around £30-35m!

Jones mentions that the NUFC boss is also an admirer of fellow Cherries attackers Josh King and David Brooks, but insists that Wilson has been earmarked as the one we want from a Bournemouth side who look set to lose several star men following relegation down to the second tier.

Wilson fits the bill in terms of being the Premier League proven striker our side badly need, having scored 33 goals in his last three seasons on the South Coast, however The Mail insist that he won’t come cheap.

A fee of around £20m has been mooted, meaning he could take up a huge chunk of our budget – especially if we fail to generate a great deal of cash through player sales.

Elsewhere, the piece also confirms that we’ve been offered the chance to sign ex-Burnley midfielder Jeff Hendrick on a free, although it’s not said if he is a player Bruce is keen to sign.

In reality, free agents like him and loans may be required if we’re going to shell out two thirds of our rumoured budget on someone like Wilson!
