Newcastle beaten to bargain deal by Sheffield Utd after discovering £2m release clause – Report

According to reports this morning, Sheffield United have beaten Newcastle in the race to sign highly-rated Wigan star Antonee Robinson.

The Mail revealed earlier today that we were aware of the USA international’s £2m release clause, which must’ve been activated following their relegation, and one of several clubs trying to tie up a bargain deal for the 23-year-old left-back as a result.

Now, The Mirror’s David Anderson reports that Sheffield United have now ‘won the race’ for Robinson, stating they will beat the likes of ourselves, West Ham and West Brom to the full-back’s signature:

A bargain deal considering this was a player who was all set to complete a £10m move to AC Milan back in January before the deal fell through at the 11th hour!

Lets hope we have plenty other irons in the fire in this area given how badly we need a new left-back or two this summer.
