NUFC could be about to make a “top-quality” signing, according to former Steve Bruce player

It’s been well documented this week that Jeff Hendrick’s rumoured move to Newcastle United is moving closer.

The Guardian seem to think we’ve won the race, The Mail say it’s ‘close’ and The Northern Echo also reckon we’ve been in ‘serious talks’ to sign him over the past few weeks.

Now, Alan Hutton, a former player of Steve Bruce’s from his time at Aston Vila has had his say on the player – and it seems he’s a very big fan of the 28-year-old mifielder.

Here’s what Hutton told Football Insider, claiming the ex-Burnley man is a “top quality player” who Steve Bruce would be “over the moon” to sign:

“I think he’d (Bruce) be over the moon with that, I think he’s been a top-quality player – it was touted that AC Milan were interested.

“I think he’s been a great player for Burnley.

“He would definitely fit into the way Steve Bruce likes to play and I think Steve Bruce has got an eye for a player – he can see how he’s going to fit in.

“He would definitely fit the bill at Newcastle and the way they’re heading at the moment.”

Hendrick was becoming a key player in Sean Dyche’s overachieving Clarets side, but refused to sign a contract offered his way this summer in a bid to seek pastures new.

As a result, it’s been confirmed by several sources that he’s been offered our way as a free agent and could well become our second signing of the summer following Mark Gillespie’s arrival.

Some will be underwhelmed, but for me he could well be a shrewd signing – not that I buy into Hutton’s claims that he’s a “top quality player”.

That’s a step too far, but I think Hendrick could be a very handy squad player who will prove to be a more reliable option than the likes of Bentaleb or Ki have been in recent years.

Cheap, hard working, versatile and has an eye for goal too. If his signing means more money is freed up for big money moves for a much needed goal scorer, I’m all for it.

After all, we need a few players this summer but haven’t got a great deal of money to make that happen if talk of a £30-35m budget is true!

  1. Having inspected this I trusted it was unfathomably useful. I respect you two or three minutes and energy to aggregate this substance. I before long wrap up unequivocally contributing a huge load of energy both evaluating and leaving remarks. Regardless, so what, it was as of now kept up with, paying little mind to any trouble!
