Must-read as Jeff Hendrick’s ex-teammate tells NUFC fans exactly what to expect from former Burnley star

Former England and Burnley goalkeeper Paul Robinson has emphasised why the free signing of Jeff Hendrick will be an excellent piece of business for Newcastle.

Newcastle appear to have beaten the likes of AC Milan, West Ham and a host of other Premier League clubs to the signing of Hendrick, with the midfielder expected to be announced as our second summer signing at some stage today.

Robinson spent two years at Burnley with the 28-year-old Irishman – who scored 9 goals in 122 games at Burnley – so should give an accurate account of what he is like in the dressing room.

Here’s what Robinson told Football Insider about our latest recruit:

“He gets forward, box-to-box, great engine.

He will score goals, but he doesn’t mind doing the hard yards as well.

Like I say, he is extremely fit.

“He’s a really good lad as well – a good, honest, hard-working midfielder.

“He would be a really good signing for Newcastle.

I’m surprised that Burnley let his contract run down, whether that was his choice or the club’s I don’t know, but he’s been a very good servant for them. Sean Dyche’s recruitment is very stringent. You have to be a certain type of character to fit into what he wants.

“There’s no bad eggs, as such, in that dressing room at Burnley, and Jeff certainly isn’t one.

He’ll fit in very well at Newcastle.”

There’s no doubt that Hendrick could be an excellent fit for Newcastle, with the fact he is a free singing making it almost a no brainer given Bruce’s limited summer budget.

He clearly gives his all for the shirt and that is something that will be extremely popular with the fan base.

There is also no denying the Premier League experience he will bring to an already strong midfield unit, with him appearing to be a cut-price yet more reliable alternative to Nabil Bentaleb.

Hopefully he fits in well ahead of his first season in a Black and White shirt!

  1. Whenever he played for Ireland he was slow and often very poor. Not the player to keep us next season. What are the odds on going down.
