New photos confirm loan star, forgotten man & U-23 talent have travelled to York training camp

It was confirmed on Wednesday morning that Steve Bruce and the squad were on their way to the multi-million pound Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate campus for a week-long training camp.

A few pictures have since emerged of the players returning from their summer break, and The Chronicle’s photos reveal the trio of forgotten players who’ve been include in Bruce’s squad for the week away.

Those three are Jacob Murphy, back from his 9-goal loan stint at Sheffield Wednesday, rarely seen midfielder Henri Saivet and U-23 star Dan Barlaser – who’s set for a chance following his outstanding spell in League One last season.

Saivet is an intriguing inclusion, with the Senegalese international training with the first-team all of last season yet failing to make an appearance for the senior side since December 2017!

I can’t see a way back for him, but this could be a big chance for Dan Barlaser and Jacob Murphy to impress Bruce after both returned from successful loan spells.

Barlaser, a ball-playing midfielder, was one of the standout players in League One as he helped Rotherham earn promotion back to the Championship, with Bruce confirming after lockdown that he’s been training with the senior side and will get his chance to impress over pre-season.

As for Murphy, it’s been reported that another loan move could be on the horizon, with Rangers and about half of the Championship keen to have him, however he could yet salvage his NUFC career if he comes back looking a different player.

Three ‘ones to watch’ over the next week, especially if they’re included in our first friendly of the summer against Crewe on Tuesday (25th).
