NUFC reject tells Sky Sports he’s set on £10m Premier League move after rejecting Brentford

Former NUFC starlet Ivan Toney scored 24 goals in 32 games in League One last term, and now has his eyes ambitiously set on the Premier League.

Signing for Newcastle in 2015 from Northampton, things never really got going for Toney on Tyneside and he was sold to Peterborough United for £350,000 in 2018 after five short term loan spells.

Since leaving Newcastle, Toney has gone from strength to strength and has become one of the most lethal finishers in the Football League, resulting in his best goal scoring season over 2019/20.

Still only 24, Toney expressed his intent to become a Premier league footballer, with Peterborough insisting they won’t stand in his way if his £10m asking price is met.

Here’s what he’s had to say in an interview with Sky Sports News:

Although untested at such a level, Toney clearly believes that his ability will get him there:

“I want to play at the highest possible level, The Premier League.

“I’ll be able to look after myself and do a very good job.”

“Let’s see what happens”.

In fact, there are already an array of Championship and Premier League clubs vying for Toney’s signature for the upcoming season.

Brentford are believed to have had a £10m bid accepted, only for Toney to turn them down, with him clearly determined to secure himself a summer move to the top flight.

Peterborough’s chairman also confirmed a sizeable offer arrived from a club outside of England last week, while Aston Villa and Leeds also reported to be interested in the forward.

If Toney can keep up such prolific goal scoring form, there is no reason why we won’t see him tearing up the Premier League in years to come.

He certainly doesn’t appear to lack self belief, and that can be half the battle when it comes to strikers and their confidence levels in front of goal!
