NUFC set to face Championship trio ahead of 2020/21 season as another friendly is confirmed

Newcastle United have announced yet another pre-season fixture for Steve Bruce’s side, with us set to travel to Middlesbrough for a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday 1st September.

This follows on from confirmation earlier today that the squad are now at a York-based training camp for the next seven days, which will finish with a friendly against League One side Crewe Alexandra next Tuesday (25th August).

Elsewhere, we’re due to play Barnsley at our Benton training base on 29th August, while fellow Championship strugglers Stoke City are due to take us on the weekend before the season begins on Saturday 5th September.

Here’s our current schedule in full, followed by the club’s latest announcement via NUFC.co.uk, confirming details of our friendly with Neil Warnock’s Middlesbrough:

  • Week-long training camp in York (Wednesday, 19th August)
  • Crewe Alexandra (Tuesday, 25th August – 2pm – York)
  • Barnsley (Saturday, 29th August – 2pm – Benton)
  • Middlesbrough (Tuesday, September 1st – 1pm – Rockliffe Park)
  • Stoke City (Saturday, 5th September – Time & venue unknown)

Newcastle United will take on North East neighbours Middlesbrough in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly match next month.

The Magpies will travel to Boro’s Rockliffe Park training ground on Tuesday, 1st September.

Kick-off is at 1pm (BST) but, due to the current pandemic and the Government guidelines around it, spectators will not be able to attend the match.

The two sides met at United’s Benton training ground for a friendly in June, with Newcastle winning 3-2.

Steve Bruce’s side have already confirmed behind-closed-doors games against Crewe Alexandra at their Yorkshire training camp on Tuesday, 25th August and against Barnsley at the Newcastle United Training Centre on Saturday, 29th August.

Not the most attractive of pre-season schedules, not that a sunny trip away was ever on the cards with COVID restrictions in mind.
