Steve Bruce says NUFC star still struggling but 4 injured players now fit & ‘ready’ for new season

Steve Bruce has revealed a quadruple fitness boost for Newcastle United after the players arrived at their week-long training camp in York yesterday.

The NUFC boss confirms that recently injured defenders Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett, Ciaran Clark and Florian Lejeune are all ‘fit’ and ‘ready’, with all four spotted taking part in the first session at York on Wednesday.

One player who is still sidelined, however, is Swiss star Fabian Schar, with him still on the road to recover following an operation on his dislocated shoulder.

Here’s what Bruce told NUFC TV from the training camp:

“It’s good that everybody is fit, who were the ones carrying injuries, so Lejeune…the only one that is not is Fab[ian] Schar.

“So it is good preparations that all of them are ready.

“So obviously [Ciaran] Clark, [Paul] Dummett, [Jamaal] Lascelles in particular, it is so important for them to stay well.

“We missed Dummy and Ciaran Clark for the best part of five or six months, which was cruel on us.

“Most important that we stay injury free, that is critical. Especially with the three of four who are joining in with us now.

“Lets get ourselves prepared both mentally and physically for what is a big challenge.”

Lascelles limped off in our defeat at Watford in July and has since had ankle surgery, but he’s been spotted taking part in training yesterday – despite Lee Ryder stating he was ‘struggling’ to be fit for the new season just last week.

Elsewhere, it’s good to have Dummett back now loanees Willems and Rose have gone back to their parent clubs, leaving us with just ONE recognised left-back.

Ciaran Clark is another reliable option who is finally fully fit after doing damage to his ankle ligaments back in February, while Florian Lejeune appears to be back to 100% after a hamstring injury over lockdown saw him sit out our final nine games of the season.
