Steve Bruce reveals Mike Ashley’s stance following £300m Saudi takeover collapse

In an interview with Sky Sports News, Steve Bruce has claimed he has ‘full backing’ of Mike Ashley ahead of the new season – despite accepting the NUFC owner was keen to sell to the Saudi-backed consortium.

Although admitting that it is ‘no secret’ that Mike Ashley wants out of Newcastle United, Bruce emphasised the fact that everyone at the club will continue to work as one and ‘get on with job in hand’.

Bruce mentioned that it was a positive that at last the fans and staff had ‘clarity’ over the takeover situation, and can now plan for the new season.

Here’s what he had to say on everything from Mike Ashley to the Saudi-backed buyers and talk of him being out of a job should their bid have been successful:

Interesting to hear the thoughts of the NUFC boss, with this the first time he’s spoken publicly about it all since the deal broke down three weeks ago.

Bruce seemed in high spirits, even taking time to make a quip at Sky for suggesting Pottechino was replacing him at Newcastle during the summer!

That said, I struggle to believe Bruce really does have the ‘full backing’ of Ashley. Is he really going to spend even £30m plus this summer on a club he clearly wants out of?

Enthusiasm is low and apathy is creeping back in, but let’s hope everyone at the club is working unison like Bruce claims and despite the circumstances, we can have a progressive season.
