Newcastle have made a €4.5m (£4m) bid for POAK left-back Dimitrios Giannoulis, according to Eurosport reporter Manu Lonjon.
This comes 24 hours on from Greek outlet Sportime claiming we were ‘seriously considering’ making a move for the 24-year-old.
Now, Manu Lonjon reports that we’ve submitted an official offer for the Greek international, saying Saint-Etienne and Marseille are also interested in Giannoulis:
Interestingly, reports in Greece were claiming just yesterday that PAOK had already rejected an offer of €3.5m this summer, stating they were reluctant to sell but would cash in if a bid of “€5-6m” arrived this summer.
Who knows if this link has any legs to it – even if we are in definite need of a new left-back this summer – but it would seem just like Mike Ashley’s Newcastle United to bid just under the asking price for a £5m-rated full-back!
One to watch. It may be that local reporters pour cold water on it in the coming hours, or it may be that he really is the left-back we are looking at – despite fans being keen to see us bring Jetro Willems back to the club and Bruce retaining an interest in Danny Rose.
