Andy Carroll’s moment of magic may have been all over social media this afternoon, but Newcastle United’s official Twitter page have now released footage of all THREE goals from today’s convincing win over Crewe.
Our first pre-season friendly of the summer against the League One side kicked off at 2pm today at our temporary training base in York, with Bruce giving game time to 22 players in total.
Watch the official highlights below, followed by individual clips of all three goals:
Here’s another look at our opener from big Andy, with the 6ft 4′ striker firing home an acrobatic stunner after latching onto a long ball from Jamaal Lascelles:
Christian Atsu then smashed home to make it 2-0 in the second half, with his emphatic finish being set up by Dwight Gayle:
Then to our final goal, which saw Federico Fernandez rise highest to head in a perfectly weighted cross from Dan Barlaser:
Elsewhere, Dummett and Shelvey hit the woodwork three times between them, new boy Mark Gillespie made some goo early saves and both Almrion and Matty Longstaff went close in what proved to be a comfortable win in the end.
Gayle limped off 20 minutes into his second half cameo, but Bruce has since stated that he’s hopeful it’s “not too serious”.
1st half XI: (4-2-3-1): Gillespie – Krafth, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett – Hayden, Barlaser – Murphy, Almiron, Saint-Maximin – Carroll.
2nd half XI: (4-3-1-2?): Darlow – Yedlin, Fernandez, Lejeune, Manquillo – Saivet, M Longstaff, Shelvey – S Longstaff – Atsu, Gayle*.
(*Dan Barlaser came back on in the 63rd minute to replace the injured Dwight Gayle)

Barlasers corner was pretty good! Ritchie could learn from that 😆
