Sky Sports: Bruce expects to sign 4 players in next 17 days – Left-back target revealed & loans eyed up

Sky Sports have confirmed Newcastle United are interested in PAOK star Dimitrios Giannoulis – but state the signing of a left-back is “not a priority at the moment”.

After Keith Downie spoke exclusively to Steve Bruce last week, the report claims Steve Bruce is looking to sign up to FOUR players before the season begins on September 12th – an ambitious target given we’re just 17 days away from our opening day trip to West Ham!

Sky Sports also state that Bruce is ‘working with a reduced budget’ and also ‘scouring the loan market’ in a bid to improve his squad.

Back to Giannoulis, they claim the 24-year-old Greek international is available and valued at around £4m – which is interesting considering that’s believed to be the amount we’ve bid for him.

If Bruce wants to sign FOUR players in just over two weeks, have we really got time to say a left-back isn’t a priority as things stand? Are we not capable of working on and completing more than one signing at one?

I know the signing of a striker must be the top priority, but I worry for us if we’re doing each deal one by one yet expecting to sign several players in 17 days on such a tight budget!

Promising to hear that we’re planning to be busy, yet this is the same recruitment team that took weeks to announce the free agent arrival of Jeff Hendrick.

Let’s hope they prove me wrong and a proven goalscorer signs along with three others!

  1. Roly Poly office boy couldnt sign his own name in 3 weeks never mind 4 players. He took 3 weeks to sign one out of contract player !

  2. It took 3 weeks to complete the signing of un-attached Hendrick; not sure who actually does the background work, but they’re not quick!

  3. We always do loads of ‘eyeing up’. Pity we never sign them.
And why is the signing of a left back ‘not a priority at the moment’? We’ve wanted a decent one for years as the Dummy is not, and never has been, the answer.
Bruce is like Carver, Pardew, Kinnear and others – full of bovine manure.
Wonder how we’ll fare in the Championship next year?

  4. ‘The left back is not a priority’? Really?
Left back has been a priority for years as The Dummy is not , and never has been, the answer.
Why are we also ‘scouring the market’ for freebies and loans? Do we have NO money at all?
More lies from our illustrious owner.
This is life under Ashley … again. Bruce trotting out the same bovine manure that Pardew and others have done over the years.
I wonder how we’ll do next season in the Championship?

  5. Apologies for two similar entries. 1st one, I thought hadn’t gone through. The gist is there to see in both however.
