According to North-East reporter Ian Murtagh, Steve Bruce is now hoping to sign TWO strikers before the summer window slams shut on October 5th.
This comes from his latest transfer piece for the Daily Star, which suggests another forward is set to be targeted due to fears Dwight Gayle will be facing a “lengthy lay-off” after pulling up in our 3-0 win over Crewe on Tuesday.
It’s emerged that the strikers knee hyper-extended and, although the club are still awaiting the results of a scan on Wednesday, it seems his injury is expected to be serious.
A striker was already a top priority prior to Gayle’s injury, so this should only up the ante in our search for a transfer breakthrough as Bruce eyes the signing of a much needed proven goalscorer…or two!
Murtagh claims that Bruce has a few “top targets” in mind – Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson and Roma’s Patrik Schick have been mentioned as exactly that in recent weeks – but states that he’ll also ‘consider the loan market’ if permanent moves for plan A, B and C fail to materialise.
With Carroll the only fit striker training with the club as things stand and us also in dire need of a new left-back and extra option out wide, it’s time we got moving!
