Watch Carroll & Murphy’s goals in Newcastle’s 2-1 win over Barnsley on Saturday – Video

Newcastle United won their second pre-season game in a week on Saturday, with goals from Andy Carroll and Jacob Murphy seeing off Championship side Barnsley.

Carroll made it two goals in his last two games with a smart finish after some good work from Shelvey and Ritchie in the build up.

Then, after Barnsley equalised early into the second half, Jacob Murphy did brilliantly to not only win a penalty but tuck away the spot kick into the bottom left corner to seal a 2-1 win.

Watch both goals below, starting with Carroll’s 27th minute strike:

Then to Murphy’s goal, which came after his pace and trickery won us a penalty:

Great to see Carroll start back to back games and get on the scoresheet for the second time in as many games.

As for Murphy, he was involved in 15 Championship goals during his successful stint with Sheffield Wednesday last season and has looked confident and full of pace in the clips I’ve seen from him against both Barnsley and Crewe.

It’s also worth noting that, in the first clip (Carroll’s goal), Hendrick cleared the ball on the edge of our area then ended up being in the box as Caroll swept home. A sign of his box-to-box ability and the sort of role he’ll take up in this Steve Bruce side, perhaps?

Here’s the XI’s that started the game and finished the game following a raft of second half subs:

1st half: Darlow – Krafth, Fernandez, Clark, Dummett – Hayden, Shelvey – Hendrick, S Longstaff, Ritchie – Carroll.

2nd half: Gillespie – Yelin, Krafth, Lejeune, Manquillo – Saivet, Barlaser – Murphy, Almiron, Atsu – Saint-Maximin.
