Newcastle now looking to sign £15m Premier League flop – Report

If The Mirror are to be believed, Steve Bruce is now looking at the possibility of signing Jordon Ibe on a free transfer this summer.

The 24-year-old winger was allowed to leave Bournemouth when his contract expired back in June, and it’s claimed both ourselves and Crystal Palace are vying for his signature.

The former England U-21 International left Liverpool for Bournemouth in a £15m deal back in 2016 and went on to score just three goals in 78 appearances for the Cherries.

He fell out of favour under Eddie Howe and made just TWO Premier League appearances last season before being released.

The signing of Ibe – at least in my opinion – could prove to be a costly mistake, even if he could arrive on a ‘free’.

He was earning a reported £40,000 per week at Bournemouth last season – meaning he cost them roughly £1million per Premier League appearance – and this is an error Newcastle have made far too many times in recent years.

Look no further than Lazaar, Saivet and Muto – who were signed on bumper contracts and have only played a handful of times, contributing almost nothing throughout their time at the club.

Hopefully, Steve Bruce can bring in a winger who has the ability and desire to consistently perform at the top level.

Ryan Fraser for example? Now that is a winger I’d like to see us go for if we’re looking at free agents.
