Just yesterday, the Northern Echo named Chelsea talent Conor Gallagher as Steve Bruce’s ‘leading loan target’ this summer.
However, less than 24 hours later, it’s emerged from the capital that Crystal Palace have ‘won the race’ to his signature on a season-long loan.
According to Oliver Harbord – Football London’s Chelsea Correspondent – the attacking midfielder has now undergone a medical at Selhurst Park, making him the latest player we’ve managed to miss out on this summer:
To rub salt in the wounds, this comes just a few days after Palace beat us to the signing of QPR star Eberechi Eze, and it now looks like they’ve been deemed a more preferable destination for yet another highly-rated England U-21 international.
Gallagher is an unknown quantity at Premier League level, but he was outstanding during loan spells in the Championship with Charlton and Swansea last season, scoring 11 goals from midfield, and is tipped to have a bright future at Stamford Bridge.
It’s reported that over half a dozen top flight clubs were looking to sign him on loan, but it’s disheartening – not for the first time this summer – that we’ve fallen short.
