New details arrive on Matt Ritchie / Callum Wilson swap – Good news for NUFC & Bournemouth?

This morning, Sky Sports Keith Downie reported that we were putting together a part-exchange bid that would see us offer Matt Ritchie plus cash for Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson.

Although Ritchie is a popular senior player who gives his all and a model professional, it seems most Mags on social media believe this could be good business. Yes we’d lose a top pro and big character, but it was seen by many as one step back and two steps forward to lose a reliable squad player but gain the sort of proven goalscorer we desperately need.

Since then, some promising new details have emerged from Sky Sports and The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder.

Sky Sports claim Ritchie has been identified as a ‘primary transfer target’ by Bournemouth – suggesting they’re very much open to the ‘swap deal’ – and also suggest that he’s keen on a move back down South, with his family still living in the area of his former club.

Lee Ryder has also said similar, stating Ritchie is a ‘key target’ for the Cherries and a player they believe can do wonders for them in their bid to earn immediate promotion back to the top flight:

So, it sounds like a deal that could work very nicely for all parties, however there’s one potential hurdle that’s yet to be discussed in details – the fee we pay Bournemouth in the potential part-exchange.

It won’t be a straight swap when they value Wilson at a reported £30m, so it may well come down to how much cash we’re prepared to offer whilst using Matt Ritchie as bait.

With Aston Villa also said to be keen and willing to pay up, this may well be what makes or breaks our attempts to sign Wilson?
