NUFC coach reveals why Jeff Hendrick looks set to be a “terrific signing” for Steve Bruce

First-team coach Steve Agnew had a lot of praise for Jeff Hendrick as the Irishman made his debut against Barnsley on Saturday afternoon.

Hendrick played 60 minutes and appeared to fit in well based on Agnew’s comments, with Bruce’s assistant praising his combination play, understanding of the game and impressive fitness levels for a player who hadn’t played since March.

Here’s what Agnew had to say about the 28-year-old when speaking to NUFC TV, backing him to be a ‘terrific signing’ for the club:

“Jeff hasn’t played much football since March, he missed the back end of Burnley’s season. “

“But you can see in training he’s a good footballer and he’s in really good condition physically.”

“He showed good bits of combination play down the right hand side, you can see he’s got a good understanding of how to play the game.”

“I’ll think he’ll be a terrific signing for us.”

Hendrick has clearly settled in well despite being at the club for just a week now.

The Republic of Ireland international has evidently impressed the coaching staff with his quality on and off the ball – despite not playing since before the lockdown break.

Consequently, I expect him to be challenging for a starting place this season – even with our extremely competitive central midfield.
