Middlesbrough have released highlights from their 5-1 win over Newcastle United today, and it looks to have been a game to forget for French centre-back Florian Lejeune.
I don’t like to single out individuals when we’ve clearly been poor as a team to lose so convincingly against a Championship side that were battling to stay up just a few months ago, but he appears to be at fault for at least FOUR of their five goals.
Watch the highlights from today’s hammering on Teeside below:
As you can see above, he’s outmuscled by Assombalonga for their first, fails to close down the cross that sets up their second, doesn’t get tight enough for their third and is beaten in the air for their fourth.
We don’t know who conceded the penalty for Boro’s fifth, but for his sake I hope it wasn’t Lejeune!
With Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding expected to arrive on loan this week and the Frenchman slipping down Steve Bruce’s pecking order over the past season, it would not surprise me if he’s moved on this summer.
A classy centre-back on his day, however you can’t help but fear that two ACL injuries in as many years has got the better of the 29-year-old.

No – the manager is to blame = get shot ASAP
He thinks that having 20 very average Midfielder’s is the way to take us forward (!!??)
He simply isn’t a Manager never mind premiership = Villa threw wads of cash at him and ONLY after he was sacked did the team start playing with an idea of what to do
Bruce has to go before we end up with useless numpty’s like him on 5 year contracts

Karl Darlow is not the answer, Woodman should have been retained and Darlow sent out on loan…its not Rocket science..

Looks to me as if Darlow was at best poor. it’s not the first time Lejune has bungled his lines. Mr. (Inept) Bruce will take us down to the Championship.

When a team scores five goals
The player is not to blame.
It is the coach who is to blame.
Why was he unable to launch the attackers?
Why couldn’t he equalize with substitution?
Steve Bruce is a super weak coach.
We have good players but a very weak coach
