Sky Sports: Newcastle now interested in signing Bernardo

A new name has been linked with a move to St James’ Park this afternoon, with Sky Sports claiming we are one of three clubs eyeing a move for versatile Brighton full-back Bernardo.

They report that ourselves, Istanbul Basaksehir and West Ham are all eyeing move for the 25-year-old who looks set to leave the Seagulls this month.

The Brazilian – who can play at left-back or right-back – completed a £9m move from RB Leipzig two years ago, but has not been a big part of Graham Potters plans since he was appointed last summer.

He made 14 Premier League appearances last season and is believed to be available, with Sky Sports suggesting that Basaksehir have been in talks with Brighton over a potential loan deal.

Hardly the most inspiring of options, with it saying a lot about our summer approach if we’re fishing around for Brighton outcasts – even if he did look a handy player under Chris Hughton.

Another name to add to the left-back list, with PAOK star Dimitris Giannoulis, Jetro Willems, Danny Rose and Rogerio all linked so far this summer.
