Some promising whispers have emerged on the transfer front this morning from both national and local journalists.
Starting with Alan Nixon, he’s revealed that there’s been a ‘couple of major breakthroughs’ for Steve Bruce, stating that a deal for Rob Holding is looking ‘very good’ and that TWO could even sign at St James’ Park today.
Here’s what he’s had to say:
On the subject of breakthroughs, the Shields Gazette’s Miles Startforth has provided a promising update on Ryan Fraser’s potential move to St James’ Park.
The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards revealed yesterday that a deal was ‘close’ and that Newcastle were just waiting on a decision from the 26-year-old free agent after ‘agreeing terms’, and Starforth now reports that we are ‘very close’ to bringing the former Bournemouth star to Tyneside:
Hopefully this means we are very close to getting the thumbs up from the Scot and can soon announce his signature on a free, with yesterday’s reports suggesting a deal was all but done only for him to disappear without a final decision.
Putting two and two together, it may be that Holding and Fraser are to two who could even put pen to paper ‘today’, although the Callum Wilson deal has been picking up pace and there’s been reports in Greece suggesting we are preparing a new improved bid for PAOK left-back Dimitris Giannoulis.
Time will tell, but it finally feels like we’ve pulled our fingers out in the transfer market and started to make some moves.
Let’s hope that really is the case and a few signings follow over the coming week!
