NUFC deny interest in duo & Man City outcast looked at but £25m too much – Lee Ryder

Lee Ryder has shared a few interesting nuggets of transfer talk during a question and answer session for The Chronicle today.

Firstly, he claims that the club have played down talk that offers have gone in for Porto’s Moussa Marega and Galatasaray centre-back Marcao, suggesting strong links to both over the weekend appear to have been nothing but paper talk.

He states ‘Newcastle have played down talk on both players‘, but one new name he says we have shown interest in this summer is Manchester City’s rarely-seen left back Angelino.

Ryder reports that he was mentioned in transfer talks this summer after an impressive loan spell at RB Leipzig, but believes Man City’s asking price of £25m has all but ended our interest in the 23-year-old Spaniard.

See what he had to say about our hunt for a left-back below, which suggests both Angelino and Norwich’s Jamal Lewis have been looked at:

“Newcastle are currently searching for a left-back and it’s no surprise to see them linked with recently relegated Norwich man Jamal Lewis.

“He would cost a cool £20million though so I’m not sure the limited budget would stretch.

“Angelino of Man City was also mentioned but a price tag of £25m put him out of question for NUFC. Looks like he’s off to Leipzig.”

It’s a shame that no takeover and our restricted budget in light of COVID-19 has meant we can’t compete for players of Angelino’s calibre, with it appearing as though we’ll look at a £5m move for the likes of PAOK’s Dimitris Giannoulis instead in our hunt for a new left back.

As for Marega, it seems like Bruce is favouring a move for a more Premier League proven Callum Wilson – despite Portuguese reports insisting we’d made a £13m bid for the Porto striker.

Marcao was another name strongly linked on Saturday, yet I don’t think anyone truly believed we were looking to spend big on yet another centre-back!
