After weeks away, Joelinton has finally linked up with the rest of his Newcastle United teammates for pre-season training today.
While the club never gave a full explanation regarding his absence, it’s believed he’s been forced to quarantine after a family holiday in Mykonos last month – an area that was later revealed as a COVID ‘hot spot’ over August, leaving several other Premier League players who visited the Greek island to go into self-isolation as a precaution.
It’s also been announced that our scheduled friendly with Middlesbrough on Monday has now been cancelled – which seems pretty convenient after they hammered us 5-1 earlier this week!
Back to Joelinton, here’s a few snaps of the Brazilian back in action at the club’s Benton training base earlier today:
Elsewhere, today’s pictures from training show Yoshinori Muto back in action for the first time since the season ended – although it’s been reported he’s been made available for transfer, if any takers emerge.
Fabian Schar is also seen out on the grass for the first time since dislocating his shoulder back in July. That said, he won’t be fit in time for the new season following surgery, with George Caulkin recently suggesting he’s still around ‘five weeks’ away.
Good to see Joelinton back, not that he’ll be heading into a big season in the best of shape, with him yet to feature in any of our three pre-season friendlies so far this summer.
Hopefully he can get some minutes in the tank in our final friendly of the summer against Stoke this Saturday – a game Jamaal Lascelles will be forced to sit out of after his red card at Boro on Tuesday.
